Background
I am a communicator, facilitator, and agricultural advocate. I live my values. Diversity and inclusion must be tied to all our goals and values – if these are in place, all other values are enhanced.
My focus is on strategic communications and agricultural programs in my role as an Educational Outreach Program Specialist with UConn Extension. I am also a freelance writer for equestrian publications and agricultural businesses.
As a communications leader and professional, I have the opportunity to serve my community and make a positive difference in the lives of others. I believe that communication and connection lead to diversity and inclusion. We are all responsible and part of the solution.
Advocacy and civic engagement are part of my lifestyle. My volunteer experience includes our town agriculture committee, equestrian organizations, and as a communications and marketing volunteer for an agricultural entrepreneur in Malawi through the Farmer-2-Farmer program of Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture.
I grew up on our family dairy farm, Mountain Dairy, in Mansfield, Connecticut. I want to acknowledge that the land our farm is on and where I live and work is the territory of the Mohegan, Mashantucket Pequot, Eastern Pequot, Schaghticoke, Golden Hill Paugussett, Nipmuc, and Lenape Peoples, who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. I thank them for their strength and resilience in protecting this land, and aspire to uphold our responsibilities according to their example.
During my youth, I was a 4-H and FFA member, and a National FFA Dairy Proficiency Finalist. I earned a bachelor of science in animal science from the University of Connecticut and a master of science in agricultural education and communication from the University of Florida.
Vision
To work in a dynamic team environment with co-workers who seek to be open and inclusive and learn and work in the latest communication mediums. Our communication efforts bring high levels of visibility to projects and marketing programs within our initiatives.
Communications is a rapidly evolving field and the pace of technology advancements requires that we are continuously learning and adapting our mediums and messages. Leadership is an ongoing process of personal growth that improves outcomes.
